Are you searching for
holiday
home insurance?
So you bought a home in the sun
and being a realist you realise that there are many disasters that can
befall a property which is left unattended for much of the year so you
want to have insurance protection for it. Not a problem, you have a
perfectly adequate insurance policy on your own home in the UK so you
think that a similar policy will be perfectly adequate for your holiday
home. Sorry, but the difference between your home in the UK and the
property abroad is as vast as that between chalk and cheese as far as the
insurance companies are concerned!
For instance, there is a distinct possibility that your property in the
sun has a swimming pool. How many houses in Britain possess one? More to
the point, how many house insurance policies in the UK cover swimming
pools? Your home in the UK is your main place of residence and it is
occupied by just you and your family. Your property abroad is a home to
you for several weeks, or at the most several months out of every year and
for the rest of the time it is either empty, or occupied by friends or
relations, or perhaps even paying guests. These people may look after your
property as well as you would yourself, but then again they may not and
your insurer is aware of that fact! Your UK home is likely to be occupied
for most of the year, your holiday home may be unoccupied for most of the
year, during which time it could be wide open to attack from adverse
weather conditions, insects, vandals or even squatters and all the less
you were made aware of these problems they could go on for many months
whilst the value of your property deteriorated.
It is therefore that the risks that your holiday home faces are entirely
different to those that your home in the UK has to contend with, which is
why specialist holiday home insurance is so essential.
